How to Clean Cast Iron Cookware

Method to Clean Cast Iron in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Wash

Hand washing is the best way to clean your cast iron cookware. It’s okay to use a small amount of soap. For food that’s stuck on stubbornly, use a pan scraper. If the food is particularly stubborn, simmer a little water for 3-5 minutes and then use the scraper once the pan has cooled down.

Step 2: Dry

Make sure to dry your cast iron cookware promptly and thoroughly using a lint-free cloth or paper towel. Don’t worry if you see a small amount of black residue on the towel, as this is just the seasoning and is completely normal.

Step 3: Oil

Apply a thin layer of cooking oil or Seasoning Spray onto the surface of the cookware, using a paper towel to evenly spread it. Wipe the surface until there is no remaining oil residue.

Regardless of whether you own a seasoned cast iron skillet, a Dutch oven, a grill pan, or bakeware, the process of cleaning each piece of our cast iron cookware is the same.
