Ragi also known as Finger millet or red millet is an ancient grain. Ragi Dosa is a healthy variation of dosa or crepes made with ragi seeds or ragi flour. There are many ways ragi dosa can be made. Ragi dosa recipe is gluten-free as well. A popular, tasty and healthy dosa recipe is from ragi flour mixed with urad dal batter to have a crisp dosa. Ragi dosa is a nutritious and protein packed dosa.

There are two ways you can make the Ragi dosa:

  • the first method is by grinding whole ragi with other ingredients
  • the second method is by using ready-made ragi flour.

I will be using the second method and make the dosa with urad dal batter.

How to make Ragi dosa recipe

  1. Take ½ cup whole urad dal, wash and soak for 3 hrs. then grind in to smooth batter in wet grinder or mixie.

  2. Add salt and allow the batter to ferment about 6-7 hrs. after fermentation batter should look like this.

  3. Firstly, dry roast the ½ cup ragi flour until get nice aroma.

  4. Add Ragi into the batter. 

  5. Add ½ cup water, to reach dosa batter consistency.

  6. Rest for 5 minutes.

  7. Heat the dosa tawa.

  8. Pour ladle full of batter in middle spread as much as thin in circular motion.

  9. Drizzle around oil and press it down with spatula to make crispier.

  10. Crispy ragi dosa is ready to serve.
