Potato kara curry /Urulai Kizhangu kara curry is a spicy potato masala, traditionally served in Tamil weddings. Whenever we plan to fix the menu for the any parties urulai kara curry is the common one that we add up in the menu along with other yummy traditional dishes. We can bring in lots of variations in this simple Kara Curry. Another method is simply making it pepper based kara curry instead of red chili powder. Also instead of regular potato, we can use baby potatoes.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. First cook the potato , I prefer to cook the pan instead of pressure cooker. Heat the pan  with water with required salt & potato.

  2. Cover & cook in medium flame until potato cook well ,Not mushy.

  3. Now the potato cook well ,strain the water ,keep the potato aside.

  4. Now Heat the kadai with oil. once the oil is hot add crushed fennel seeds & red chilis.

  5. Add chopped onion ,curry leaves & chopped garlic , Fry onion till transparent. While sauté add green chilies too

  6. Now add ginger garlic paste , Sauté until raw smell goes off.

  7. Now add chopped tomato with required salt , sauté until tomatoes cook well.

  8. In this stage add turmeric powder, Red chili powder , Coriander powder , Kashmiri red chili powder. Sauté until masala smell goes  off also oil separate.

  9. Now add water mix it well , Then cover & cook another 5 - 8 minutes .

  10. Once the masalas cook well add boiled potato & garam masala powder. Mix it well .

  11. Cover & cook another 4-6 minutes .

  12. Finally add chopped coriander leaves then switch off the flame.

  13. Yummy Potato curry / urulai kizhangu kara curry is ready.
