This simple tomato chutney is very quick to prepare. Tomato chutney made with tomatoes, coconut and some red chili. It can go with idli, dosa, adai (multi dal dosa), paniyaram, uthappam. Whenever I prepare Sambar for idli there is a usual question from my daughter…. No red chutney????? She used to say like this for tomato chutney. How to make tomato chutney recipe

Heat the pan with oil.

Add rock asafetida, when it starts splitters, add garlic stir for few seconds.

Now add chopped tomatoes and required salt. Sauté them till the tomatoes becomes thick mushy.

Then add red chilies and sauté about 2-3mins.

Add grated coconut and sauté for 2mins then switch off the flame.

Add roasted chana dal and mix in the heat of the pan.

Allow them to cool and transfer into blender and grind in to smooth paste without adding water.

For seasoning heat the pan with oil, then add the items under temper.

Yummy delightful tomato coconut chutney is ready to serve.
Note
- If you don’t have rock asafetida you can use powdered one in the time of seasoning.
- Always use fresh prepared one. Because of coconut the shelf life of this chutney is low.
