It is an ideal recipe if you have some leftover rice with some unattended cabbage in your fridge, resulting in a spicy flavoured rice recipe.

Cabbage rice with step-by-step photos. This is a mildly spiced and delicious Indian style cabbage fried rice made with shredded cabbage, basmati rice, onions spices and herbs. Pair it with an Indian pickle or raita for a comforting meal.  Fried rice or veg rice or veg pulao are a nice lunch option most of the times in our busy lives. In fact, if you have some left over rice you can easily create your signature recipe of a fried rice. Usually when I cook fried rice, I cook the rice first, cool the rice grains and add to the fried veggies.  You can add veggies like carrot, capsicum or cooked green peas. This will make the cabbage rice healthier and more flavourful. It’s a very simple rice dish and goes well with every curry, dal, or just raita.

Coming to the facts of cabbage and health beneficial points, Cabbage is a leafy vegetable of the Brassica family, which also includes broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts, and it’s one of the oldest known vegetables, dating as far back as 4,000 B.C. in China. It comes in several varieties—green, red, and savoy—which can be eaten raw* or cooked, thrown in a soup, tossed in a salad or stir fry, topped on fish tacos, or simply just steamed by itself.

Cabbage fried rice is a variation of the Classic Chinese Vegetable Fried Rice. But this is made with plenty of cabbage as it is the star ingredient of the dish. Stir fried cabbage, garlic and chilies impart a magical flavor to this cabbage rice.

If you want to improve your digestive health, fiber-rich cabbage is the way to go. This crunchy vegetable is full of gut-friendly insoluble fiber, a type of carbohydrate that can’t be broken down in the intestines.

Cabbage is a really healthy type of cruciferous vegetable, just like broccoli. It is considered to be a liver-friendly food because it contains a high concentration of phytonutrients, chemical compounds that are amazing when it comes to helping the liver flush dangerous toxins out of the blood. Studies show those who consume cabbage regularly have the least risk for developing diabetes.

The inexpensiveness and health benefits of cabbage earned it its nickname “drug of the poor” during the Middle Ages. If you are truly trying to improve your diet, adding this cruciferous vegetable to your meal plan is a good place to start.

This easy-to-prepare rice dish takes less than 30 mins to prepare and good lunchbox recipe for kids and adults.
