Poli | Paruppu Poli | sweet Poli | obbattu with step by step photo and video recipe. It is a traditional south Indian sweet . Using Channa dal, jaggery and coconut puranam gives nice flavor to the Paruppu poli / Puran boli.
This is a very famous recipe throughout India, it is had as an evening snack too and it is a must recipe for Tamil New Year, Navratri , Pongal in Tamilnadu and during Ugadi festival in Karnataka. Though the preparation seems lengthy, just make the inner stuffing in advance, keep refrigerated and it can be used for a week, whenever needed. This same poli can be in prepared many ways, some people flatten it with their fingers, which comes by a lot of practice only. But, I have used the chapati roller, which anyone can do, also you can make it thick or thin as preferred.
Poli you can prepare with variety of stuffing. the most common one’s are with rava / semolina, chana dal, toor dal, coconut and even mixed dry fruits. In our place we prepare Bogi ,Deepavali & ganesh chathuri festivals. My family love paruppu poli using chana dal.

You can fold it and store it in a container, if not having it immediately. Poli tastes good even after few hours of preparation.
Note
- Note that water we are adding should be very less. The lesser we add water to jaggery, sooner the stuffing will get ready.
- Instead of banana leaf you can use zip lock cover or any plastic sheet.
- you can make the stuffing the previous day and refrigerate it. Bring it to room temperature before making polis.
- you can refrigerate Dough also up to 4-5 days.
