Moong dal / pasiparuppu Tiffin Sambar, a simple and delicious sambar made from moong dal. It’s ideal side dish for all south Indian tiffin items like idli, dosa and pongal. we usually make sambar with moong dal or the combination of moong dal & toor dal.
It is an everyday south Indian dish. There are many sambar varieties. I am going share a tiffin sambar, which can be prepared with pasi paruppu or toor dal. Both my mom and mother-in-law makes the one with pasi pauppu very often. My Mom makes this pretty much every time she makes idli. My Dad is a very big fan of this sambar. Me too 🙂 Hot soft idli with this sambar and coconut chutney will be divine. Moong dal have high nutritional value and easy to digest. In my place, people buy idlies for babies from a specific hotel specially for this sambar. And they make this less spicy, kids loves it very much Sambar is most healthiest dish to incorporate in diet because spices has its own set of health benefits. Sambar , is an elixir of health . It benefits the health by better digestion , relief from gas and flatulence. Also good source of protein by lentils , immunity boosters like turmeric, cumin seeds and also vitamin, minerals from vegetable stew.

Instructions

First Pressure cook all ingredients under 'To pressure cook ' list

once the dal is cook well, then strain the water it using strainer then smashed the dal using ladle or blend using blender.

Now heat the pan with 1 tsp oil ,Then temper with the items given under ‘To temper’ table in order.

Add onion then sauté the onion until turns transparent.

Then add required salt & sambhar powder again sauté well until raw smell goes off.

Add strain dal cooked water & smashed dal mix ,then add required water, cook about 4-5 minutes in medium flame.

Mean while heat the thaduka pan add fenugreek seeds roast until turns light golden color.

Then transfer to the plate.

In the same pan add little oil then add whole Asafetida fry it until turned golden color.

Then grind it to the fine powder, then our fresh sambar powder is ready.

Add 1/2 tsp fresh sambar powder in the sambar ,cook the sambar about 5 minutes in medium flame.

Finally add chopped coriander leaves, jaggery powder & ghee, then switch off the flame.

Serve sambar with Idli, dosa and Pongal.

- The sambar is very mild, so perfect for all kids to old peoples.
