Poondu Milagu kuzhambu | Garlic pepper Kulambu one of the spicy, tasty and healthy South Indian Kuzhambu Variety. Pepper and Garlic is known be the most medicinal ingredients in our kitchen. Garlic is a natural antibiotic. It is a great medicinal value filled recipe everyone should include in this pandemic time. This pepper kuzhambu can be made with and with garlic & small onion , it adds more health benefits to that kuzhambu.

This milagu kulambu is very good for people who suffer from fever and indigestion. During covid pandemic, you can include this chettinad poondu milagu kuzhambu once in a week. Many researches says pepper is best medicine to kill virus.

It makes for a perfect accompaniment with hot steamed rice and a generous drizzle of sesame oil. Serve Poondu Milagu Kuzhambu Recipe along with Steamed Rice, Kootu, Poriyal and Vadams.

Poondu Milagu Kuzhambu is a traditional tamarind based curry prepared using garlic cloves , small onion and black pepper corns from the state of Tamil Nadu.


To prepare Kulambu

To Prepare Fresh Masala Paste


Off On

  1. First roast & grind the masala ingredients. For that heat the pan with oil. Then add corander seeds , red chilies & curry leaves.

  2. Fry it in medium flame until turns golden color, then transfer to the plate.

  3. In same pan add little oil then add chana dal &  urad dal. Fry until turns light golden color.

  4. Once the dal change into light golden color then add  Pepper corns .Roast them for few minutes.

  5. Finally add cumin seeds then fry it until all ingredients turns golden color.

  6. Cool and Grind all the fried ingredients to a smooth paste and set it aside.

  7. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it to sputter, Then add fenugreek seeds & asafetida powder.

  8. Now add the peeled garlic & small onion to the pan and sauté the Onion & garlic in oil in low-medium flame for 3 mins. While sauté add 1 tsp salt .

  9. Now add tomato & turmeric powder. Sauté until tomato cook well.

  10. Once the tomato cooked well add the spice paste and mix well. Keep flame in low and cook for few minutes.

  11. Now add water cook for few minutes until oil separates.

  12. Add tamarind water along with salt and & Little jaggery powder .

  13.  If the kulambu becomes very thick, add water to adjust the consistency. Also add coconut milk .Boil in medium flame for 5 mins to get rid of the raw smell of tamarind also oil separates. 

  14. Finally add curry leaves then switch off the flame.

  15. Yummy & Tasty Poondu milagu kulambu is ready to serve. Serve Poondu Milagu Kuzhambu Recipe along with Steamed Rice, Kootu, Poriyal and Vadams.



  • Adding coconut milk is a totally optional .with out coconut milk also taste good.
