Rava Idli | Instant Rava Idli Recipe is an easy breakfast recipe made using Rava (Sooji / semolina). It is very easier to make than the conventional Idli which requires soaking, grinding and fermenting. It is the instant breakfast variety. We will be using the Rava (Sooji) and Yogurt as the main ingredient to make this recipe. We also need to add Baking Soda or Eno Salt to get the softer Idli. The conventional Idli batter will be fermented overnight and so they will be soft by themselves. On the other hand, this Rava Idli is instant so just adding baking soda (or) Eno salt will give fluffiness to the Idli. We can also add veggies like peas, chopped spinach, beans etc.

Serve the hot Instant Rava Idli with Tiffin sambar ,Chutney or Idli Podi.

  1. First heat the pan with ghee & oil.

  2. Once the oil & ghee is hot add mustards seeds, the mustard starts to splutter add urad dal & chana dal.

  3. Sauté until dals turs turns golden color also mustard splutters well.

  4. While sauté  add asafetida powder  too. 

  5. Now add chopped ginger , green chilies , chopped curry leaves & chopped cashew nuts. sauté  in medium flame for few minutes.

  6. Add rava / semolina ,Roast in medium flame until get nice aroma. While roasting add pinch of turmeric powder.

  7. Roast it like this  . The rava color should not change. Now switch off the flame.

  8. Transfer to bowl ,keep aside until cool down.

  9. Once its cool down add required salt & curd , Then  mix it well.

  10. Add required water to get the Idli batter consistency (Not too thick also not too watery).

  11. Now add chopped coriander leaves then mix it well . Cover & keep the batter aside for 5-10 minutes.

  12. After minutes the batter is little thick but no need to add water. before prepare the Idli add baking soda mix well till it turns frothy. After the batter turns in to required consistency with out adding water.

  13. Now grease the Idli plate with oil and place cashews in the center. Pour the batter immediately into the idli plate.

  14. Steam the rava Idli for 5-8 minutes on medium flame.
  15. Finally serve the rava Idli is ready , Serve with coconut chutney & sambar.

Note

  •  you can also prepare the batter before in hand and store in a fridge. remember just before steaming add baking soda / Eno.
  • If the rava not roasted well the idli will sticky.
  • Instead of baking soda you can add fermented idli dosa batter 1/2 cup.
