Urad dal chutney recipe / ulutham paruppu chutney / ulundhu chutney is popular in Tamilnadu.Uludham paruppu thuvaiyal goes well with idly or dosa or paniyaram. Main ingredients for this urad dal chutney are urad dal/black gram along with onion, coconut, red chillies and other seasonings. Urad dal and other ingredients are oil roasted and ground to a fine paste and finally seasoning added to it.

Instructions To Prepare Chutney

  1. Heat the pan with little oil.

  2. Once the oil is hot add urad dal, Fry it in medium flame until turns golden color. Once its fried remove urad dal from the pan.

  3. In the same add little more oil , Than add Dry red chilies & Kashmiri red chilies. Fry chilies for few minutes. once its fries then Keep it aside.

  4. Now add chopped onion & garlic. Saute it in  medium flame till the onions turn  golden color.

  5. Now add chopped tomato along with required salt, Sauté it in flame until tomato cook well.

  6. Add tamarind , sauté for few seconds. Now remove onion tomato mix from the pan then keep aside.

  7. Allow all the roasted items to cool completely.

  8. In a blender fist add onion tomato mix & Fried red chilies . Grind this into a smooth paste.

  9. Now add fried urad dal with little water, Grind this into a coarse paste. Finally add curry leaves then grind it in pulse mode for few seconds.

  10. Temper with mustard seeds , red chili and curry leaves and add it to the chutney.

  11. Chutney is ready to serve with Idli or dosa or Kuzhi Paniyaram.

Note

  • In this chutney you can use skinned urad dal too , it will be very good also healthy.
  • Adjust the red chili as you wish.
